She is often depicted as a goddess with three faces, representing her role as the guardian of the crossroads and her association with the lunar cycle. Hekate was one of the main deities worshipped in Athenian homes as a protective goddess, shrines of Hekate were placed at doorways with the belief that she will protect people from the dead and evil spirits.
